White stork & offspring

The White Stork (ciconia ciconia) is a large wading bird. It breeds in the warmer parts of Europe and is a strong migrant, wintering in tropical Africa. The White Stork is a huge bird, 1 m tall with a 2 m wingspan. It walks slowly and steadily on the ground. Like all storks, it flies with its neck outstretched. White storks breed in open farmland areas with access to marshy wetlands. It builds a stick nest in trees, on buildings, or special platforms. Because it is viewed as bird of good luck, it is not persecuted, and it often nests close to human habitation. In southern Europe, storks' nests can often be seen on churches and other buildings. It often forms small colonies. This stork is almost silent except for the noisy mutual bill-clattering when adults meet at the nest. Muteswan Veluwe National Park

Mute swans are large birds, measuring 144 to 158 cm. The wingspan is 2 to 2.5 meters. The two sexes are alike in appearance, except that males are generally larger than females. The plumage is white. Mute swans breed in north central Europe and north central Asia. It is not migratory, although some populations must move in winter when waterways and lakes freeze. They are sometimes found at the coast, particularly in winter, rather than solely being birds of inland waters. The Mute Swan is one of the heaviest flying birds, with males weighing more than 12kg, and females more than 11 kg. They live in well-sheltered bays, open marshes, lakes, and ponds. Black woodpecker feeding offspring

The Black Woodpecker (dryocopus martius) is a large woodpecker. The plumage of this crow-sized woodpecker is entirely black apart from the red crest. The males and juveniles both have long narrow red crowns but on the adult females this is restricted to a little red patch at the back of the head. Its flight is straight, not dipping like other woodpeckers. Black woodpeckers are widespread in much of Europe. Their loud calls make them one of the easier woodpeckers to find. Good sites include the Lac de Foret d'Orient (France), the Hoge Veluwe (Holland), the Hohe Wand and Marchegg (Austria) and the Aggtelek Hills (Hungary). soccer player from palermo on the train from sorrento!

I met these two guys on my train ride back from sorrento, italy. they entertained me for the long 5 hour ride, making it unforgettable! He gave me a sweatshirt, 5 cds he made himself, postcards and a stuffed teady bear...why? who cares!:)

Amalfi with Daniela

I met this guy Daniela in an english pub while i was checking my e mail in sorrento...we went to 'take a coffee' and became friends. He was such a superb tour guide, showing me lots of hidden places. He owns a bar in Sorrento, which is completely cool. His smart car was fun, as was his scooter, which we rode around on a lot on my days there. Cheers Daniela!
